In another highlight of the visit, the President presided over the start of construction of the Sh900 million Busia Stadium.

President William Ruto on Wednesday toured Busia County where he launched and reviewed a series of projects touching on trade, sports, and housing, in a push aimed at improving livelihoods and opening up opportunities for residents across the region.

At Teso North, the President officially handed over the Amagoro ESP Market to traders, marking a shift from informal trading to a more structured setup.

The facility is set to host mama mbogas, artisans, and small businesses, offering them a cleaner, safer, and more organised place to operate.

The market is part of the government’s bottom-up economic plan, which seeks to empower people at the grassroots by giving them space to grow their businesses.

By bringing traders under one roof, the project is expected to streamline operations and improve how goods and services are accessed by customers.

With proper stalls and better facilities now in place, traders are expected to carry out their activities in a more secure environment while reaching more customers.

The project is also seen as a step towards strengthening small enterprises and supporting local economies.

In another highlight of the visit, the President presided over the start of construction of the Sh900 million Busia Stadium.

The 10,000-seater facility will meet FIFA standards and is expected to play a key role in developing sports talent among young people in the area.

The stadium adds to ongoing efforts to grow sports infrastructure across the country, alongside projects such as the Talanta Sports Complex.

The government hopes such investments will give young athletes access to proper training spaces and help identify talent from different regions.

Once complete, the facility is expected to host regional competitions, which could attract visitors and create business opportunities for local communities.

It is also part of a wider plan to use sports as a way of building national pride and supporting youth engagement.

The President later visited Funyula to check on the progress of the Nangina Affordable Housing Project.

He confirmed that earlier legal challenges that had slowed down the works have now been sorted, paving the way for completion within six months.

The housing project is part of the government’s plan to increase access to decent and affordable homes while improving living conditions for families. It is also expected to support local jobs during and after construction.

Together, the projects show a combined approach that links economic activity, social services, and infrastructure development. By investing in markets, sports facilities, and housing, the government is aiming to create opportunities, support youth, and uplift communities in Busia County.

The developments also reflect a focus on spreading growth to different parts of the country, including rural and growing urban centres. Improved facilities and better planning are expected to support business growth, create jobs, and enhance daily life for residents.

As the projects take shape, Busia County is set to benefit from improved trade spaces, new sports opportunities, and expanded housing, all aimed at raising living standards and supporting long-term development.
